North American Food and Beverage Sales – Visualize Profits through Company Headquarters

North American Food and Beverage Sales, 2014

Using the Google Maps API, here is a map displaying the profits of the major North American food and beverage companies. A recent news article showed that Kraft and Heinz, two of the largest North American food companies will merge. Data from this article was plotted according to the major companies’ headquarters address.

A minimalist background is shown to better represent the profits of these companies. The markers aren’t meant to show all the offices of each entity; however it is interesting to note that these companies headquarters are mainly in the East Coast, with none present in the West Coast.

Overall, this is a map meant to display a set of financial data; the circles do a great job of allowing a user to easily identify the largest companies on the list. The contrast of the light map background and the transparent circles allow for an easy comprehension of the data.

Overall here is the total list, based on 2014 North American food and beverage sales:
PepsiCo $37.2 billion
Nestlé $27.9
Kraft-Heinz — proposed merger $22.2
Coca-Cola $21.5
Kraft Foods $17.9
General Mills $13.7
Kellogg $9.5
Mondelez $6.9
Campbell Soup $6.4
Dr Pepper Snapple $5.6
J.M. Smucker $5.5
H.J. Heinz $4.2
McCormick $2.4

The map itself is set to auto center according to the GPS points, therefore it’s better to zoom in to North America to get a better idea of the data set!

Here’s where I got the data for these companies 2014 profits:
